Periodontics in Guelph
Gum disease can cause tooth loss, and it can lead to serious health problems for the rest of your body as well. Proper dental hygiene to remove plaque from your teeth is important, as is regular cleaning and scaling to remove tartar.

Scaling
Tartar is a hard buildup that forms on your teeth. It’s harder than bone and can’t be removed by brushing. To remove tartar, we use a special technique called scaling. Using dental tools, we remove the tartar from around your teeth and above the gumline.
Root planing
Rough areas on the roots of your teeth can irritate your gums and make them vulnerable to infection. We smooth these areas, reducing the irritation and keeping your gums healthy.
Tooth extraction
Although we strive to prevent the need to extract a tooth, sometimes infection or injury makes removal necessary. Extractions are performed under local anesthetic and we try to make the experience as painless as possible. After your extraction we’ll discuss replacement options such as dental implants or bridges.
The symptoms of gum disease include chronically sore and bleeding gums. Call us for an appointment if you experience symptoms.
